So I feel like probably every skincare/beauty blogger has already talked about this product, but I’m just going to add to the hype. I’ve never really had any type of skin issues. Even as a teenager, my skin rarely gave me any troubles. Sure, I’d have an occasional blemish here and there, but nothing so drastic that I ever had to search high and low for some miracle skincare products.
It wasn’t until I was about 20 years old that I started experiencing some serious breakouts that majorly affected me. I began getting awful, painful bumps all over my chin and mouth area. I tried just about everything. I was switching cleansers, moisturizers, exfoliants, just trying to find a product that worked for me. I’m a vegetarian, so I tried going vegan for a while, eliminating any kind of dairy products because I thought it could be because of dairy.
These weren’t just bumps that went away either. They were sore, painful, and lasted way longer than any breakout I had had previously. I dealt with this for about a year, jumping between products, cutting out dairy, sugar, whatever I could to try to find the root of my issue.
This was really affecting my confidence, and I found it difficult to go anywhere without applying some sort of concealer. Even then, the redness was hidden but the bumps were still there. It was embarrassing and frustrating because it was never something I had dealt with before and I had no idea what I was doing wrong.
One day I came across a post talking about how amazing Thayers Witch Hazel is. It’s an alcohol free toner that removes any dirt and oil from your face without drying it out. I had heard a lot of good things about it so I picked some up at Target and oh.my.god. It’s been probably three years and I keep my bathroom stocked with this now. I have tried both the Lavender and the Rose Petal kind (they also have an unscented one), and they both work equally as well in my opinion.
I can’t even explain how much this product changed my life. My skin cleared up completely. I rarely ever get blemishes anymore (maybe a couple when it’s that time of the month or I’m super stressed out). I credit all of it to this product.
The way I use this product is I cleanse normally using my Burt’s Bees Face Cleanser for Sensitive Skin. Then I’ll exfoliate depending on how my skin is feeling (I typically exfoliate 2-3 times a week, sometimes less.) After cleansing and exfoliating, I put the Witch Hazel on a cotton ball and rub it all over my face. I typically do this twice. Then I just add my serum and moisturizer like normal. I usually only use Witch Hazel at night, but sometimes I will in the morning as well. To me, this isn’t a product that irritates or dries out my skin, so I don’t need to worry about using it sparingly at all.
This product is so good that I’ve got my husband into using it! I know it used to sell for about $8-$9, but I just picked some up a few days ago and the price is now around $12. I think the demand became so high that they raised their prices, but honestly, it’s 100% worth it.
