May Ipsy Bag

I feel like this month is just flying by! It seems like every time I sit down to blog I have another Ipsy bag to talk about. I’ve been reading about a lot of disappointed Ipsy subscribers online, but I’m still quite happy with my bag. Most of the products I receive have always been consistent with my profile, and even though I usually get one item I’m not crazy about, the other products always make up for it.

This month’s theme was “Go Travel” and that couldn’t be at a better time in my opinion. The beginning of summer always promises trips and memories to be made. With only a few weeks left until my big summer roadtrip, I truly appreciated the adorable passport stamp bag. You know when you’re unsure about something but you see a little sign that confirms your decision? That’s how this bag made me feel about our upcoming travels.

Besides the theme being adorable, I really love the bright colors and the shape of this bag.

There’s even a little airplane on the zipper 🙂

The first product I received in my bag was the Touch in Sol Style Sepia Gel-Liner in Jardin.

When swatched, this eyeliner is a pretty brown shade with flecks of green sparkle in it. You obviously can’t see the shimmer in this photo, but it’s a very unique liner and I think it will make for some fun eye looks.

The second product I received is the Sur.Medic + Pore-less Carbonic-Peel Mask. I received two of these masks and the first thing Skyler said when he saw me open it was “One for me?”. I’m so glad I married a man who actually wants to do face masks with me.

I have yet to try this mask, but the Ipsy site says this mask is “a bamboo charcoal sheet mask made with carbonated water that clarifies impurities and gently removes dead skin cells.” The package also claims to help control oil and keep your skin moisture-balanced while clearing and calming pores. Sounds good to me! I prefer sheet masks over any other type of mask, so I’m hoping this will be a winner.

Next I received the Tarte Cosmetics Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder. Tarte is my favorite brand of all time, so I was stoked to finally get a sample from them in my bag. I’m awful about purchasing setting and finishing powders (it’s boring and I don’t care who tries to tell me it isn’t), so it’s kind of a relief that Ipsy sent me one considering it’s not something I enjoy shopping for.

This finishing powder is super lightweight and silky. It’s supposed to spread evenly over the skin, reduce shine, and prevent flashback in flash photography. So far I absolutely love it, and will continue to use it (and probably purchase the full size).

Up next is the Sugar Cosmetics Arch Arrival Brow Definer in Taupe Tom. This is the first brow product I have received from Ipsy, and so far the verdict is not looking well.

One side has a built-in spoolie and the other is a retractable, slanted pencil tip. I really like the shade of this and it matches my brows well, but I also like very defined brows after my arches and that’s a bit difficult to achieve with this product.

The Sugar Cosmetics Brow Definer is the middle swatch.

The product itself is very hard and I had trouble getting any color to show up in my brows or even on my hand for the swatch. The one day I did try to do my brows with this they looked terrible, and I just redid them with my normal brow pomade. Overall, while I like the shade of this brow pencil, I just don’t think the product works very well. I shouldn’t have to try so hard just to get some color payoff. After reading other reviews, this seems to be a common issue.

The last product I received is the one I’m probably happiest about. I know I posted previously that I had received a very dark, vampy lipstick in my April bag and I was unhappy about it because I only wear those shades in the winter. Well I updated my Ipsy settings to nudes and neutrals only for lipsticks, and it looks like they took that into consideration! This month they sent me the NYX soft matte lip cream in the shade London.

I absolutely adore the packaging of these lip creams. The lid of the applicator itself is super soft and matte, and the packaging makes it a perfect travel product. The color itself is the perfect peachy-beige nude I needed for spring and summer.

The scent is absolutely delicious, but I don’t know how they wear yet. The swatch went on well though so I have high hopes for these. I just hope it wears better than the NYX Lip Lingerie line. I purchased one of those lipsticks last year and was very disappointed with how flaky it was. I have a wedding to shoot this weekend, so I will most likely wear it Saturday and see how it is!

Well that’s my May Ipsy bag! As usual, I’m happy with the majority of the products I got. What did you get in your bag? Let me know in the comments below♡
