My Current October Faves

Just a few things I’m loving in the month of October!

Beauty

October Beauty Currentlys Kelsey Styron Blog

Bath and Body Works Lavender & Sandalwood Fragrance Mist: I have no idea how old this bottle is, but it still smells amazing and gives me all the warm and cozy fall vibes.

Pacifica Natural Beauty Dream Big Mascara: I actually hated this when I first used it, but it’s starting to grow on me. I really love the wand and how it separates my lashes so nicely instead of clumping them.

Colourpop Lippie Stick in Cookie: I’m pretty sure this shade is discontinued now, but I’ve been wearing mine a ton lately. It’s the perfect peachy nude color for when I want to look put together but still professional.

TV/Movies

Castle Rock

Skyler and I just finished Castle Rock a few days ago. This show is set in the Stephen King multiverse and is a mix of horror and the supernatural, mystery, and science fiction. It has André Holland and Bill Skarsgård (swoon) in it, and damn it’s so good. It’s also been renewed for a second season, so I’m excited to see where the story goes.

We’re currently on Season 5 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I had heard so much about this show and am super glad I decided to check it out. It’s such an easy show to watch and always cheers me up. I’m going to be bummed when I finish season 5 since season 6 hasn’t even been released on tv yet.

Music

Foster The People’s song Sit Next to Me is SUCH a banger. I’ve been jamming it for the past few months, and it gives me all the best 80’s vibes. Highly recommend to listen to it in the car with the windows down.

Hippo Campus‘s album Bambi is full of gems, and I listen to it all the way through with no skips. It’s the perfect roadtrip through the mountains type of album.

Lastly, I had to include Conversation Pt. 1 by Mac Miller. His whole new album Swimming is such a masterpiece, and I’ve been listening to it so much lately. I’ve been listening to Mac Miller ever since his first mixtapes, and I cried when I heard that he had passed. I think his new album is more than worth giving a listen to, but it may hit you harder than you expect.

Books

A Storm of Swords Kelsey Styron blog

I’m currently reading A Storm of Swords, the third book in the A Song of Ice and Fire (AKA Game of Thrones) series by George R. R. Martin. I’ve been “reading” this book for months now, since I’ve been so busy I barely picked up at all. Now that I have some downtime I’ve been reading it like crazy and will probably finish it in the next few days.

If you’re a fan of the Game of Thrones tv series, or even just fantasy novels in general, I highly recommend buying the series and reading it. It helped me understand the show SO much more, and actually have a connection to the characters and understand their motivations. It’s just such a great series and I’ll be bummed when I finish them all.

Food

Here’s some food I’ve been super into lately! Yes, I know it all looks like junk food but I’m not going to share a picture of bananas and romaine lettuce. From left to right:

Califia Farms Dairy Free Toffee Tidings Almond Milk Creamer: I am a total slut for anything toffee, so I almost died when I saw this in store. This makes my morning coffee absolutely perfect, and is super creamy unlike most almond milk creamers. I know it’s a limited holiday creamer, but I really hope they just make it a year-round thing.

Lightlife Smart Bacon Meatless Veggie Bacon Strips: I used to exclusively buy the Morningstar bacon, but since that’s not vegan I was on the hunt for something else. I found this at Kroger and all my wishes were answered. It’s super delicious on BLT’s and I seriously have zero complaints about it. 10/10

Tostitos Hint of Lime Tortilla Chips: Tostitos always has the best tortilla chips. These have an awesome lime seasoning on them, and they taste amazing crushed up in some spicy black bean soup.

Kroger Peanut Butter Filled Pretzels: I loooooove peanut butter, and remember eating these all the time as a kid. They’re super cheap and are a great snack to have when I’m shooting weddings (or coming back from a shoot). Plus, they’re super cheap.

Lenny and Larry’s the Complete Cookie in Snickerdoodle: I feel like such a dummy for not knowing about these! They’re vegan, kosher, soy-free, and have 16 grams of protein per cookie. The chocolate chip one is my favorite, and I can eat one while I’m running errands and it keeps me full.

Lifestyle

IMG-8800

Majesty Palm: I bought this majesty palm from Home Depot for $17. I haven’t gotten a planter for it yet, but have been paying extra attention to it to make sure it’s happy. I think it adds so much to our house and I’m so happy I got it.

Full Moon Chicken Jerky Dog Treats: My dog Kahlúa is absolutely obsessed with these dog jerky treats. I’ve never seen her go so crazy for a treat before. The best part is the ingredients: Chicken, Dried Cane Molasses, Vinegar, Rosemary Extract. No fillers and no random preservatives, so I don’t have to worry if they’re bad for her.

CBD Gummies

CBD Gummies: One of our friends gave us these after Skyler helped him fix his car. These CBD gummies contain Certified Pure Cannabidiol, and are supposed to help you relax and sleep easier. They don’t contain any THC, so they don’t get you high or anything like that.

I took one the other night and basically died lol. They really do relax your whole body, and I think they’re going to be super helpful for Skyler since he has such difficulty sleeping on a normal schedule. Unfortunately, these aren’t vegan since they contain gelatin, but I’m sure I can find other CBD products that work for us.

That’s it for my current October faves!

  1. Ahh! I haven’t listened to any of Mac Miller’s Swimming album; I’m scared it will tear my heart apart. My friends used to be obsessed with him in high school, I couldn’t believe he passed.

I love all things toffee, too! So yum! I’ve still not tried an almond milk creamer so I’ll keep my eyes peeled for that one! I’ve heard a lot of good things about The Complete Cookie! So amazing that much protein could be packed into one. How do they taste though?!

The plant is beautiful! & they sell CBD in all kinds of forms. There’s def something out there for you. 🙂

    • It’s such a good album! We had been listening to it for maybe a week or so, and then when he passed Skyler ended up playing one of the songs and I asked him to change it because it made me cry. I’m finally back to where I can listen to it again without feeling down, but man I can’t believe he’s gone.

And you should definitely try this one! I seriously struggled with plant-based creamers because I feel like so many of them just turned my coffee into a watery mess. This one is actually thick like regular creamer. Also, I love the taste of the Complete Cookies, but I’ll admit when I first tried them I was like “these are kinda weird” lol. It doesn’t taste like a regular cookie or anything, it has more of a thicker texture I guess? The chocolate chip and snickerdoodle are my favorite, and I would not recommend the peanut butter one at all lol.

Yeah Skyler and I need to go to the CBD shop and just try out a few different things! It’s more for him anyway. I had no problems sleeping usually but I still think it’d be nice to keep around the house just in case.

      • It’s really such a tragedy. It’s like so many celebrities are dying left & right, it’s almost not a shock anymore.

Ahh I usually drink my coffee black but sometimes I like a sweet treat so I’m def gonna look for that coffee creamer, sounds amazing. ❤ Thanks again for sharing it!! & maaaaybe I'll pass on the Complete Cookies. 😉 lol.

Hope you find some fun CBD stuff. ❤

  2. That Colourpop lippie looks soooo good and I didn’t realize Pacifica had mascaras because I had never seen them before.. how much do they cost?
Omg seeing your plant made me miss mine, mine dried up, I’m still trying to figure out if it got too much sunlight when I took it out, too close to the WiFi, or too much water (though I watered it every two weeks and it was fine for a while) ugh I really miss it, plants do make a difference inside homes and the only ones that have survived and thrived are my bamboo plants lol.
And I think I need those cbd gummies, I have trouble sleeping and I just need something to relax, period.

    • The Colourpop lippie is awesome! I feel like people sleep on the Lippie Stix but they are sooo good! This mascara from Pacifica was $12! I think it’s a pretty solid mascara, and they have it in a waterproof version too.

Nooo that’s so sad! I’m definitely worried that mine isn’t happy here, so I’ve been watching it closely every day. I read somewhere that if the leaves turn brown, it needs more water and if they turn yellow, it needs less water. So I’ve been trying to keep that in mind with it. It’s definitely hard to kill bamboo 😂 Succulents and cactuses are great too since they need basically nothing, and they make a house look so pretty.

You should try the CBD gummies! Or any of their products. My husband has serious trouble sleeping and they’ve helped him a lot. I feel better that he takes those instead of sleeping pills or something that’s bad for him.

      • Yeah I plan on getting some of the lippie stix in the future. I have so many lipsticks so I need to make sure I don’t have the same shades, if that makes sense LOL. And that’s cool, I’ll have to check it out 🙂

Yeah I didn’t know about the color change in their leaves until mine finally died 😦 LOL and you’d be surprised, or at least my bamboo plants start withering if I move them. Like they have to get accustomed to their new surroundings LOL. They really love the kitchen though haha, especially above the kitchen sink where the sun shine and natural light hits them all day long. I moved one above the sink because it was dying and months later she was pretty much as tall as the window, it’s amazing! I do want to get a catcus and some succulents, right now I only have the fake ones lol.
I’ll have to see where they sell them though, i’ll be sure to do some research lol. Oh yeah I’m not big on pills so something that’s more “natural” will help me more.

      • Haha that makes so much sense, I’m currently on a replacement only buy for lipsticks because damn, they just accumulated so fast 😂

That’s crazy! I had no idea that bamboo plants could be so picky, that’s awesome that yours seem to be doing so well though. I really would love to get a bamboo plant 🌱

I’m not sure where you live, but here in Dallas we have specific shops that sell all kinds of CBD products. If not, you can always order it online 😊

      • I know right? And I also can’t bring myself to toss some because in my head I always think I’ll need them later lol.
Yeah idk if it’s true or not or just plain superstition, but some people have told me that say, you buy one and bring it home, wherever you put it, the bamboo will like that area specifically so it can be problematic if you move it around. But idk if I can fully believe that, I’ve been moving mine on purpose and so far they’re fine so who knows? 😂
I live in Oregon, so marijuana is also sold recreationally, I just have to see if all shops carry it or not. Lol.
