September Ipsy Bag: Unboxing & Review

I really liked my September Ipsy bag! Most of the products I received gave me that mermaid vibe (so much purple), so it was a pretty fun bag. I also have another product I received that I forgot to put in my initial flatlay (oops).

The bag itself is pretty cute. I think the black and gold looks nice, and the eyelashes add a fun touch. I like the quote inside the bag as well: “Rules were made to be broken”. I think that’s especially true in the beauty world.

The only complaint I have is that the black material shows just about everything, so I’ll probably use this bag mostly for keeping items all separated and organized when I travel.

The first product I’m going to talk about is this Winky Lux Mermaid Kitten single eyeshadow in the shade Ursula. I had to take a photo of the little box it came in because the packaging was so pretty.

Also, for some reason I actually think the weird little mermaid kitten on the front is pretty cute, and I usually hate any cutesy, kid type stuff. I was going to depot this eyeshadow, but I don’t know if I want to part with the packaging.

This shade is a really glam deep purple shimmer shade. I actually tried it out on my lids today. I used my finger to apply it and it applied pretty well. Not quite as good as my Colourpop shimmers, but it was quite easy to build the color up. I accented it with a little gold shimmer eyeshadow as well, and I think it looks really nice! I can’t say how it wears, but I’ve had it on a few hours so far and it still looks great. I think this shadow will be a great color for winter glam looks. I’m not huge on cool tones, but this shade is super versatile.

The next product I received is the Luna by Luna translucent powder in white sand. I really like this brand and was excited to get a translucent powder from them. The formula is very silky and sets my bb cream nicely. My only complaint is that this is very white, so I have to use a light hand since it leaves me looking like a damn ghost lol. I’m probably going to save this for the winter time when I’m much paler.

Cruelty Free?: Yes

Vegan?: Not sure.

This is the only product I received in my bag that I was unhappy about. This is the Luxie Beauty Harley Quinn Detail Flat Definer 110. First of all, I really hate the whole theme of this. I’m kind of over themes in general tbh. I’d rather have sleek, luxe packaging/theme that actually makes me feel like an adult. This is just really childish to me and I’m not about it. I already have too many brushes tbh, and I just think this is just going to be taking up space.

That being said, I do love Luxie Beauty’s brushes and I think the brush itself is wonderful. It’s super soft and blends like a dream. I’m just over gimmicky themes.

Vegan?: Yes

This next product was such a relief to me! This is the Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish in Mermaid Vibes. The other variation was the same brand in the shade Kiss Kiss Darling, which is basically a deep red that every girl in the world already owns. I was so relieved to get Mermaid Vibes since I knew it would make for a cool accent color. I already have enough red nail polish so I definitely didn’t want another.

I tried this shade out as a full pedicure, and then as an accent nail on my left and right ring fingers. It’s a really iridescent purple color, and honestly it’s best to just use it on one or two fingers. When I did my pedicure with it I knew I had messed up, because it’s just very pastel and shimmery so I don’t think it looked good on my toes.

On my manicure, I did a really pretty neutral grey with this as an accent color, and it looked awesome. I think I did about three or four coats. It’s definitely a color you need to build up, but any iridescent polish is going to be that way. Also, since it has so much shimmer to it, it stayed way longer than my opaque polishes typically do. It was honestly kind of difficult to remove it lol.

Next, I received the Eva NYC Satin Dream Cream Leave-In Cream (this is Ipsy’s photo since I forgot to take one). This is what the Ipsy site has to say about it:

“It’s packed with vitamins your hair loves, like argan oil, avocado oil, and Keravis Protein Complex, that strengthens hair and fights breakage.”

I’ve been using this maybe twice a week after I shower and I love the way it makes my hair feel once it’s dry. It has a really nice smell and gives my hair moisture and life without weighing it down like some leave-in conditioners tend to do.

Vegan?: Yes

This last product I received was the Pacifica Beach Crystals Natural Mineral Eyeshadows. I got this little palette from redeeming my Ipsy points. I already have it’s sister palette in Tomboy Vibe, so I was excited to try this one out.

I find Pacifica’s eyeshadows to be a little more chunky than most, but the color payoff is still great and they have always lasted throughout the day for me. I was pleasantly surprised by how beautifully they swatched, and I think the purple shadows look so awesome when they’re applied.

Overall, I’m super pleased that I got this little palette, because I’ve already gotten some use out of it and know I will continue to use it. I also like that they included the two warmer colors, since I gravitate towards warm shades more often.

Cruelty Free?: Yes

Vegan?: Yes

I think it’s really awesome that Ipsy seems to be sending out more cruelty free and vegan makeup. That being said, my Ipsy membership is now on pause. I’m not sure for how long either, because I may just cancel it. I love receiving products from them but I’m getting really strict with my budget now to pay some things off and establish an emergency fund.

Makeup is fun and all, but I do think Youtube beauty gurus and Instagram makeup accounts really encourage unnecessary spending a lot of the time. I’m also working on creating a small, carefully curated makeup collection of my holy grail items, and I just don’t want to be spending money on things that aren’t important to me.

That being said, if you do want to treat yourself, I think Ipsy is more than worth it. It’s nice to try out some new brands and figure out what does and doesn’t work for you. I think I’ve tried it out long enough to get a decent collection of items I love, and who knows, maybe I’ll go back to it after a few months.

  1. I love the bag, it’s so cute!!! I so agree about the overly gimmicky & childish stuff… done with it all. 😒

The eyeshadow & polish shade are gorgeous! & I would be so excited for that translucent powder!

I also 100% agree about why you cancelled Ipsy, too!

    • It is really cute! I love the eyelashes!

And ugh, I think everyone is over all the childish stuff! It was fun for a while but I want to look at my stuff and feel like an adult, not a kid.

I’m really pleased with the eyeshadow and polish! I love having some fun accent colors since I usually stick to neutrals.

And ugh I needed to hear that! I love the beauty community but I just can’t always keep up with everything. So many new releases and “the next best product”, I’m just over it. I want to have things I love and actually get use out of. Just today I used a highlighter that hasn’t been touched in like a year! That’s just crazy.

      • I love the eyelashes, too! But more than that, I love that tag on this inside! ❤ & yeah, I'll like the little Asian characters like Hello Kitty forever but, all the Unicorn, mermaid crap etc. has got to go.

Yeah seriously, there is just so many products & not even half of them work!! It's so annoying to spend $$ on things that other people say are wonderful but they don't end up working for you. Y'know what I mean?

      • Exactly! 👏🏼👏🏼

I think I just need to find out what works for me, instead of giving in to all the hype. I mean most of my recommendations come from youtubers (who get all their shit for free and get paid to advertise stuff).

  2. That bag is super cute!! And I’m with you on the brush themes, luxie makes great brushes they should stick with their pink ones lol.
I have that Pacifica palette that I received like back in February, but I love how pigmented it is too. The purple shades are my favorite
